Project Description

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function to as near to normal as possible when someone is affected by injury, illness or by developmental or other disability.

We offer a wide variety of treatments to bring pain relief and greater freedom of movement. We work with patients with a number of conditions including sports injuries, arthritis, MS, back and neck pain and any other movement problems or muscular pain. We always aim physiotherapy treatment towards bringing full rehabilitation to patients. This is often achieved after a course of treatment and a variety of treatments, such as exercise, mobilisation techniques, massage, acupuncture and ultrasound. We teach you to manage your condition and will give you specific exercises that help you find maximum relief and restore movement in the long term. Acute cases normally respond to hands on treatment, acupuncture and gentle early exercises.

Your first physiotherapy appointment

This includes an initial physiotherapy assessment, which allows you to inform the physiotherapist of your existing problem, and discuss ways in which your physiotherapist can help you. This assessment also allows the physiotherapist to determine what treatment would be best for you. Following your initial assessment your physiotherapist will give you your first session of treatment. Our approach relies on accurate assessment, skilled techniques and appropriate advice. This initial appointment will last up to 40 minutes.

Your follow-up physiotherapy appointments

Each follow-up treatment session will last between 30-40 minutes and will consist of a variety of treatments which are aimed to best aide your specific problem. You can be re-assessed at any time or request an initial assessment on a different area of your body.

The treatment involved

Your physiotherapist will work to treat the underlying cause of your problem, and not just the initial symptoms. They will not only aim to correct your problems; but will provide you with information on your injuries, treat the necessary areas, and teach you specific exercises that will help you to solve the problem and prevent reoccurrence. Ambulant Physiotherapy Ltd has its own gym, enabling your physiotherapist to create and demonstrate a customized exercise programme specifically to aid your rehabilitation needs. We also have access to a local hydro pool.

These are the main approaches that our physiotherapists use:

  • Exercise – will strengthen weak muscles and prevent re-occurrence of injury

  • Mobilisation techniques – increases joint range of the affected joint around the injury

  • Manual Therapy Techniques – where the physiotherapist aids recovery by using their hands and stretches to relieve muscle pain and stiffness, and encourage blood flow to an injured part of the body

  • Other Techniques – such as heat, cold and acupuncture to ease pain

  • Acupuncture – can relieve chronic pain and muscle tension

  • Ultrasound – speeds up the repair of ligaments and tendons

  • Traction – may reduce referred pain from a discs protrusion in the back or neck

The cost of physiotherapy treatment

  • Initial Assessment (40 minutes): £45

  • Each follow-up appointment (30 minutes): £40

  • Home visits are available in the Preston area: from £60
