At Ambulant Physiotherapy, we can refer patients for private diagnostic imaging when it is clinically appropriate. This can help provide a clearer diagnosis, guide treatment decisions and, where necessary, facilitate referral to the most appropriate specialist.
We work closely with Professor Shah Khan, a highly experienced Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist with over 20 years of consultant practice. Professor Khan specialises in the diagnosis of bone, joint and soft tissue conditions, including:
- Sports injuries
- Back and neck pain
- Arthritis
- Tendon injuries, including Achilles and patellar tendinopathy
- Muscle and ligament injuries
- Joint problems
Following your physiotherapy assessment, we can advise whether imaging such as an MRI scan, ultrasound scan or X-ray may be beneficial. If appropriate, we can refer you directly to Professor Khan for private imaging.
Professor Khan completed a Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Imaging at Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands, one of the world’s leading centres for musculoskeletal medicine. He has extensive experience treating everyone from recreational exercisers to elite athletes, including Premier League footballers, Olympic athletes and professional rugby and tennis players.
In addition to diagnostic imaging, Professor Khan also performs image-guided injection procedures where these are appropriate as part of a patient’s treatment pathway.
Professor Khan is an Honorary Professor at the University of Greater Manchester, leads medical student education at Bolton Medical School, has published more than 30 peer-reviewed research papers and has received national recognition for excellence in musculoskeletal radiology.
If you would like to discuss whether private imaging could help with your recovery, speak to your physiotherapist during your appointment. We can advise you on the most appropriate next steps and arrange a referral if required.
